Sober Party
After a strange encounter with a mysterious and unsettling girl at a college house party, Oskars Vito becomes disoriented and isolated as he delves deeper into a surreal world filled with bizarre parties in his mind. His surreal experiences include the Mad Hatter's tea party from 'Alice in Wonderland', a Midsummer celebration from his home country of Latvia, and a reinterpretation of 'The Last Supper', where he finds himself dressed as Stańczyk, the lonely jester.
Sober Party features Kaitlin Safka as Alice, with Oskars Vito performing the song as himself. This project is the first release from my studio, Inklass Studios, which was fully funded by my parents and me, for which I am eternally grateful. Sober Party has received multiple international awards for Best Music Video at the Best of BFM Film Festival and the Digitaalse Audiovisuaalse Loomingu Konkurss. Sober Party was filmed in just two days at four locations: Pikva Manor, Maarjamaäe Castle, and two rooms at the Baltic Film and Media Arts School.
I created a complete creative guide and ensured that I was actively involved in every step of the process during pre-production, particularly with costume, makeup, and set design. However, no matter how much you plan, there will always be aspects that require improvisation. Despite this, I am proud that the final cut is 90% aligned with my original vision and storyboard.
At the beginning of the fifth semester, my university informed us that our semester project would be a music video. I immediately partnered with my good friend Oskars Vito to plan a music video for him. During the summer break, while riding my bike around my quiet neighbourhoods and listening to his discography, the song Sober Party played. I could instantly visualize a music video for it. I hurried back home to draw the storyboard in my mind and create a video pitch since I couldn't attend the pitch in person as I was flying back to Estonia on the same day. Unfortunately, "Sober Party" was not accepted as one of the semester projects, but this motivated me to pursue it independently.
